What To Expect From A Massage


As I do remedial work a get asked "do you do relaxation" and I say "do you want to feel good on the table or days after you get off".


Some time people go for a massage not really knowing what to expect. Different modalities (styles of massage) will have different expectation, so it's good to ask when you make an appointment to ask a few questions.


  • What do I wear? I have had female client come in bikini's, they didn't want to be seen in there under garments.
  • Do you use oil or cream? This will help decide to ware old clothes as some oils stain clothes very easy.
  • Do I bring anything? This could be hair elastics or bands, shoe that you wear to check for wear for gauging you posture.
  • Do I need to bring x-rays? Some therapists like to see them.
  • Referrals from other practitioners.


This is what I do and what I was tort

  • They will ask why you are there or what the problem maybe.
  • They will ask  for medical history, life style, fill out a client card/form
  • Depending on the session you maybe ask to range motion, posture tests
  • The therapist will give you directions on how they want you to lie on the table.
  • Do expect to get undressed, so pick a gender of therapist you are comfortable with.
  • The therapist will give you directions about getting undressed, remember you only have to remove at much clothing as you feel comfortable with or what is required by the treatment. Ladies removing your bra is optional as it can be unclipped and clipped backup.
  • Massage therapist work with informed consent, this mean they have to ask if you want certain body parts done and if you want them exposed. but if they forget to ask TELL them you don't want something massages, TELL them if  you don't want a part of your body uncovered or exposed. The main part that can be left out breasts, bums, feet, tummy.
  • The therapist will leave the room to allow you to get undress, please wait for them to do so.  And they will leave to allow you to get dressed.
  • Give FEEDBACK about what feel nice or hurts.
  • Expect Oil to be used, so ware clothes you don't mind getting oily, if you are on you lunch break ask for cream or lotion.
  • AT NO TIME SHOULD THEY OFFER OR BE ASKED FOR SEXUAL SERVICES.
